History
Abstract
Vestfalski mir smatra se jednim od najvažnijih mirovnih ugovora u ljudskoj povijesti. Njime je završen Tridesetogodišnji rat, koji je bio jedan od najgorih sukoba u ljudskoj povijesti, ali njegovo značenje prevazilazi završavanje samo tog sukoba. Mir je zapravo okončao jako dugo razdoblje u Europi prepuno ratova i sukoba kojima korijene možemo tražiti čak od raspada Rimskog Carstva, koji su se svi vrtjeli oko istog cilja, a to je pokoravanje kontinenta od strane jedne velike sile i uspostavljanje jedinstvene Europe. Također, reformacija, izum tiskarskog stroja i otkrivanje novog svijeta, značajno su pridonijeli velikim promjenama koje su uslijedile, jer su uvelike pridonijele racionalnijem društvu. Vestfalski mir potpuno je promijenio tu situaciju jer je s njime uspostavljen koncept ravnoteže sila i ojačan je pojam suvereniteta. To je značilo kako sada cijela ideja ujedinjenje Europe pod jednim vladarom nestaje, te kako će ubuduće države imati čvrste granice, kojima se neće tako olako moći rušiti suverenitet. Treba reći i kako su nakon mira isplivale potpuno nove sile, te je politička karta Europe promijenjena. Takav poredak ostavio je posljedice sve do danas, pa se tako Vestfalski mir smatra i početkom modernog uređenja međunarodnih odnosa. Zbog svega ovoga možemo sa sigurnošću reći kako je Vestfalski mir ostavio duboke tragove u poljima povijesti, prava i politike.
Abstract (english)
Peace of Westphalia is considered one of the most important peace contracts in the history of mankind. It primarly ended the Thirty years war, which was one of the worst conflicts in human history, but its importance is much deeper than that. The peace basically ended a very long time full of war and conflicts all over Europe, which roots we can trace all the way from the dissolution of the Roman Empire, all revolving around the same goal, a large force trying to conquer the whole continent, making Europe united. Also, reformation, invention of the printing press and discovery of the new world, greatly contributed to a more rational society. The peace of Westphalia completely changed that situation by establishing a concept of balance of power. That meant the end of an idea of united Europe, and future with firm borders and strong sovereignty. It also brought change in the political map of Europe and established some new powers. That system left its consequences till present time, which is why the peace of Westphalia is considered as the start of modern interantional relationship system. With all this said, we can certainly say that the peace left deep impact in the fields of history, law and politics.
