Abstract (english) Alcohol is behaviour altering drug. The amount of personal intake and individual resilience directly influence persons behaviour and the extent of intoxication. Aside from serious damage that alcohol causes to young, not fully developed organism of young people, continuous drinking of alcohol, eventually turns into a substance addiction. This usually continues through the period of adolescence and into the adulthood. Alcohol abuse is deeply rooted in our region. Not only adults, but also teenagers and children drink. Reasons are probably the same as everywhere in the world. It is customary to drink in many social occasions, due to the common belief that alcohol brings people into good mood and makes everything more fun. Also, yearning for something better than our everyday life, escaping reality and coping with difficult situations in personal life can urge people to drink. Alcoholism is not a hereditary disease, but young people, and often children, drink, inheriting the custom, not the disease. This hereditary addiction in families is often the main reason for drinking among young people. During the adolescence people have self-esteem problems, they try to impress their peers by drinking great amounts of alcohol and as often as they can. Identity crisis that appears in adolescent years largely contributes to young people's decision to drink. Especially if it's expected by the society or their peers. One of the important problems in school is sudden binge drinking of students during school trips. The beginning of alcohol abuse usually originate from peer pressure and it is not uncommon to have young people heavily intoxicated and also cases of alcohol poisoning among children. Living in the communities that approve and encourage alcohol abuse is great motivator for young people to start drinking. The goal of the studywas to assess alcohol consumption and people's awareness of alcohol influence on human health. The studywascarriedout on students in the fourth grade of Secondary School of Science (PMG) and the Economic School Secondary School Isidor Krsnjavi in Nasice (ES), a total of 60 participants, thirtysubjects in eachschool. The survey results show that participantsinbothschools have a neutral attitude towards alcoholism and alcoholics. The most common cause of alcohol consumption in society is acceptance, curiosity, and anescape from reality. Alcohol consumption amongour subjectsis very common. According to the type, the beer is most widely consumed. Participants believe that the alcohol in Nasice is easily accessible to young people.
