Abstract (english) Free time can be seen as complementary to the one that is carried out by working, earning a living, so it serves satisfying those needs that a man cannot satisfy by working. Free time (similar to the meaning and concept of the game) has a "senior" and the special importance of all to itself, so the person in his/her spare time, achieves the goals and meet the needs that are completely independent of his professional "earning for living».
Police occupations are, along with the health plan. workers, often categorized among the most stressful, so the way of coping with stress in police officers is extremely important. Except for the immediate method of coping with stress, selection activities carried out in their free time, as well as a way of spending free time (in terms of the need that certain activities of an individual meets), are extremely important for reducing the stress experience of police officers, but also their satisfaction with life.
This paper will explore the selection of activities that police officers choose in order to spend their free time, as well as the way of spending their free time (the needs that the activities of an individual meets), in relation to their satisfaction with life. Therefore, the aim of this research is to determine the frequency of selection activities that police officers spend their free time, their spending of free time and the level of their satisfaction with life.
The subjects were students of the second year of specialist studies in Criminology, with the high police school in Zagreb (N = 77). We assume that from the total number of respondents, about 80-90% would be male.
The questionnaire used was the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener i sur., 1985), and two specially composed a questionnaire called the Way of the implementation of the free time and the kind of leisure activities according to the template from the research Editors, et al. (2005). Although it is assumed the lack of statistically significant differences and linkages in relation to a number of independent variables, it is likely to be a number of statistically significant difference and/or links to be found.
The results will be potential guidelines for further research in this area, but also for the suggestions of the optimal ways of spending free time for individual profiles of police officers.
