According to the to the classification of the UN, 65 is the age at which people are considered to be old. People over the age of 65 need to be treated in a special way and require a much larger area of health care. The process of health care within the geriatric area is directed towards maintaining the health of an individual or if the health is declining towards Improving the quality of life and healthcare. During the older age there are different changes on organs and organic systems which results in deterioration and damage of their function. As a result of that some chronical diseases appear and also a functional disability of that older person. In geriatric care there is a commonly used term ‘4I’s’.which is describing the conditions which often afflict older people. Those are: immobility, which is appearing as a geriatric immobilisation syndrome, Instability because of the large percentage of falls or accidents. Non-independency because of the large number of dementia and Alzheimers disease and uncontrolled urination or incontinence with the geriatric patients. For a nurse working in geriatric care it is a challenge to get to know every patient and offer them the best care and best individual treatment. In this thesis I will present the tasks and the role of the nurse throughout the phases of the healthcare process with older people who have these four major Gerontologic health problems.
