Abstract
Roll on-roll off ili kraće RO-RO, u slobodnom prijevodu s engleskog jezika znači ''dokotrljaj-otkotrljaj''. Usporedni naziv drive on-drive off rjeđe se upotrebljava. Izraz RO-RO nastao je 60ih godina 20. stoljeća kada započinje masovnija izgradnja specijaliziranih brodova koji primaju teret na kotačima - horizontalno, za razliku od dotada uobičajenoga vertikalnog ukrcaja broda tzv. LO-LO načinom (''lift on-lift off'' ili digni-spusti). Skladišni prostor brodova koji prevoze RO-RO teret podjeljena su na jednu ili više ojačanih paluba.Pristan za prihvat RO-RO brodova najčesče se sastoji od jednostavne operativne obale ili obalne rampe, dok terminal za ovu vrstu broda posjeduje odgovorajuće rampe, otvorene i zatvorene površine, pripadne servise i prostrana parkirališta.
Abstract (english)
Roll on-roll off or shorter RO-ROs are vessels designed to carry wheeled cargo, such as cars, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, trailers, and railroad cars. The term RO-RO was created in the 60s of the 20th century when massive construction of specialised ships started. These ships have been loaded horizontally with cargo on wheels, unlike the usual vertical loading of cargo, so-called " LO-LO“ mode (''lift on-lift off'' or dive-drop). The storage space of ships carrying RO-RO cargo can be vertically divided into one or more strengthened decks. Berthing facilities for RO-RO ships usually provide simple berth and/or shore ramp,while the terminal for this type of vessel consists of apropriate shore ramp, opened and sheltered areas, services and spacious parking lot.
