The cadaster of Francis I is an inexhaustible historiographical source that sheds light on ownership, social and family relations of the town of Hvar in the 19th century, the relations that represent a basis for further historical and demographic researches. The cadaster is the first systematic land survey that aimed to establish a tax system. Its importance was also recognized by Francis I, during whose reign cadaster measurement of the Habsburg Monarchy was initiated. The cadastral map of the town of Hvar from 18345 and the Building Registry of the constructed buildings in the town of Hvar from 1835 were analyzed in this paper. The focus of the thesis is on real estate, space and families that made up the urban image of the town at the beginning of the 19th century. The town of Hvar is presented through the analysis of data related to its geographical position, urban development, type and function of real estate, individuals and families who were users of those real estates, which are used to observe the demographic and economic development of the town in the 19th century. Particular emphasis is placed on the description of property owned by private individuals, municipalities, the church and the state. Data from cadastral materials were analyzed and interpreted in the light of family relationships, private, municipal and state ownership based on the population census, list of houses, list of public buildings, as well as an insight into the registries of Hvar parish. The thesis gives a clear social and spatial image of the town in the 19th century and represents the starting point for all further researches of the town and the rest of the island. The results of this research will clarify the picture of family property and the social topography of the town.
