Abstract
Republika Hrvatska 1. siječnja 2023. uvela je euro kao službenu nacionalnu valutu čime je ostvarila svoj strateški vanjskopolitički prioritet i ispunila obvezu preuzetu potpisivanjem Ugovora o pristupanju Europskoj uniji. Prije ulaska u eurozonu, Republika Hrvatska trebala je provesti niz strukturnih reformi radi daljnjeg poboljšanja gospodarskih i fiskalnih pokazatelja kako bi ispunila preduvjete nužne prije punopravnog članstva u eurozonu. Svrha rada je prikazati prednosti i nedostatke uvođenja zajedničke europske valute za hrvatsko gospodarstvo. Uvođenjem eura nestaje valutni rizik, smanjuju se kamatne stope, olakšava se usporedivost cijena, nestaju mjenjački troškovi, smanjuju se troškovi prekograničnih plaćanja, a sve to potiče međunarodnu trgovinu, turizam i investicije. Kao negativne strane hrvatskog članstva u euro najčešće se spominje porast cijena i gubitak dijela monetarne neovisnosti o čemu će se detaljnije raspraviti u radu.
Abstract (english)
On January 1st 2023. Croatia officially adopted the euro as its national currency, accomplishing its strategic foreign policy goal and fulfilling the obligation assumed by signing the Treaty on Accession to the European Union. Before entering the Eurozone, Croatia had to implement multiple structural reforms with the goal of further improving its economic and fiscal indicators in order to fulfil all necessary conditions before entering the European monetary union. The point of this paper is to show all benefits and deficiencies of implementing the euro, benefits being eliminating the currency risk, lowering of interest rates, easier price comparison, eliminating currency exchange costs, reducing transnational payment costs and generally, incentivizing international trade, tourism and investments. Deficiencies include losing a part of national monetary independence and general price increases. This paper will offer detailed analysis of these issues.
