Abstract
Zbog smanjenja negativnog utjecaja pomorske industrije na okoliš poseže se za različitim inovacijama u pogledu smanjenja emisije štetnih plinova te korištenja uređaja koji smanjuju upotrebu fosilnih goriva koji se smatraju najvećim krivcima za onečišćenje. Jednu od takvih inovacija predstavlja MAN B&W ME-LGI dvotaktni motor pogonjen metanolom. Naime, primjena ovih motora na brodovima utječe na povećanje korištenja zelene energije u vidu pogonskog goriva koje je čisto odnosno ne emitira velike količine emisija štetnih plinova u atmosferu. Međutim, uz sve prednosti postoji i određeni broj nedostataka koji proizlaze iz načina proizvodnje metanola (korištenjem fosilnih goriva), zapremnine skladišnog prostora za pohranu pogonskog goriva na brodovima (smanjenje teretnog prostora) te dostupnost dovoljne količine metanola za trenutne potrebe.
Abstract (english)
In order to reduce the negative impact of the maritime industry on the environment, various innovations are resorted to in terms of reducing the emission of harmful gases and the use of devices that reduce the use of fossil fuels, which are considered the biggest culprits of pollution. One such innovation is the MAN B&W ME-LGI two-stroke engine powered by methanol. Namely, the use of these engines on ships increases the use of green energy in the form of clean fuel, i.e. it does not emit large amounts of harmful gases into the atmosphere. However, in addition to all the advantages, there are also a number of disadvantages arising from the method of methanol production (using fossil fuels), the volume of storage space for fuel storage on ships (reduction of cargo space) and the availability of a sufficient amount of methanol for current needs.
