Abstract
Ovaj rad istražuje povijest trgovine soli kroz komparativnu analizu administracije soli u Veneciji i na istočnom Jadranu, s posebnim naglaskom na Zadar i Dubrovnik. Venecija je razvila sofisticirani sustav upravljanja solju koji je uključivao proizvodnju, transport, skladištenje i distribuciju, dok su gradovi na istočnom Jadranu imali svoje specifične metode i strukture. Sol je bila ključni ekonomski resurs za oba područja, ali su Venecija i istočni Jadran koristili različite administrativne i financijske strategije. Mletačka Republika uspostavila je monopol na trgovinu solju koristeći inovativne tehnike i financijske instrumente poput obveznica i mjenica. Analiza također uključuje utjecaj ratova i političkih reformi na trgovinu solju u oba područja, te uspoređuje učinkovitost i održivost njihovih sustava upravljanja solju.
Abstract (english)
This paper explores the history of the salt trade through a comparative analysis of the salt administration in Venice and the eastern Adriatic, with a focus on Zadar and Dubrovnik. Venice developed a sophisticated system for managing salt, including production, transportation, storage and distribution, while cities along the eastern Adriatic adopted their unique methods and structures. Although salt was a vital economic resource for both regions, Venice and the eastern Adriatic implemented different administrative and financial strategies. The Venetian Republic established a monopoly on the salt trade using innovative techniques and financial instruments such as bonds and bills of exchange. This analysis also examines the impact of wars and political reforms on the salt trade in both regions, comparing the efficiency and sustainability of their salt management systems.
