The paper deals with the state and the development perspectives of the Dubrovnik hotel industry in terms of the currently dominant trends in world tourism. Under circumstances of ever-fasting changes in the world we live in, new trends in the behavior of a modern man are being created that significantly affect his attitude towards spending his own free time. The development of technology, especially traffic and communication, has accelerated the development of the tourism industry and tourism is the largest and the fastest growing economic activity in the globalized world today. Dubrovnik is the most famous tourist destination in Croatia with a long tradition in tourism. In the period after the Homeland War, it faced many challenges how to direct its tourism development. A very important tool that can help it on that way is to be sure to follow the world trends, and the same, respecting their specifics, try to apply them for their own benefit. The structure of tourism products currently prevailing in Dubrovnik tourism is not optimal. In order to achieve the optimum in this segment, Dubrovnik further needs to develop some tourist products to attract the preferred segment of tourists, especially those that will help to extend the tourist season. Famous domestic and international hotel chains must continue to contribute to the development of tourism products. Dubrovnik also must be able to solve some of the current problems such as traffic within the city and the lack of high-quality workforce. Additional efforts are to be made the destination management to be improved and the brand of Dubrovnik to be strengthened. And finally, security was and must remain a top priority because it is the guarantor and the main assumption of any further development.
