Abstract Na uskom priobalnom prostoru i u pripadajućem akvatoriju, grad Dubrovnik sistemski podijeljen u tri mikroklastera - Uže gradsko područje, Prigradsko područje i Elafiti, izraženo u broju dolazaka i noćenja, ostvaruje desetinu turističkog prometa Republike Hrvatske.
Abstract (english) On the narrow coastal area and in the local waters, the City of Dubrovnik systematically divided into three micro clusters - Narrow urban area, Suburban and Elafiti, quoted in number of arrivals and overnights, realised 10% of the Republic Croatia tourism development. The majority of that development, over 70%, occurs in the summer months from June to September which points on extremely seasonality characteristic of tourism in the whole destinations area. Tourists in the City of Dubrovnik are hotel guests, guests in other accommodation units, day visitors and travellers from cruisers. The latter emphasizes seasonality since they come only in the summer months, on certain days of the week with stay time of a few hours. More than two-thirds of cruise ship passengers must see the Old town and together with at least one-third of tourists who are located in the area of destination cause pressure on the overall infrastructure of the city to the limits of sustainability. But in the winter occupancy of accommodation capacity is such that even the new high class hotels cannot realise long-term positive business results. The current growing trend of tourism development, in addition to the attraction of the Old town, is predominantly based on the products of the sun and sea, which further reinforces the phenomenon of seasonality. This paper therefore examines whether a particular form of tourism - sports tourism, in any form and in any way can be used as a means to achieve spatial and temporal dispersion of the tourism development in the City of Dubrovnik as tourist destinations. By analysing the natural, physical, spatial, infrastructural, organizational and human conditions on the supply side for all three micro clusters and taking into account the research results about the sports tourists participation in the outbound markets (the demand side) and their habits related to the length of stay and preference of the season to use vacation, this paper takes the affirmative attitude toward summer sport-recreational tourism in the function of spatial and temporal
tourists dispersion in the City of Dubrovnik destination and suggests ways to increase its effectiveness.
